Tell Me About Yourself Interview Question
The “tell me about yourself” interview question is frequently the most commonly asked question during an interview. It is also the first question so it is important to be able to make a good first impression with the response.
The best way to prepare for this question is to understand exactly what the job title being interviewed for entails. By pinpointing the key components of the company’s ideal candidate, the interviewee can link his or her own experiences and skills to those specific points. As a result, it will be easier to go into the interview knowing what the company is looking for as well as catering one’s personal strengths to those qualities. Also, the response should include the last place employed as well as any major accomplishments at said location.
The rule of thumb is to not dwell too much on the past, unless it somehow increases the chances of being hired.
Furthermore, the candidate should not forget to mention the reason behind applying for the particular company. This should naturally include the interviewee’s future goals and passions.
When answering this question, it is important to be as clear and concise as possible. Rambling can lead to avenues of conversation that are either irrelevant or complicated, which will ultimately confuse the employer and lower the chances for further consideration.
