Joshua Terns
Hiring Manager
Verdugo Rehabilitation Center
7534 Alexandria Avenue
Sacramento, CA 86747

Dear Mr. Terns,

I am very interested in the Alcohol and Drug Counselor position posted in the Los Angeles Times. Having graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles as a Sociology major and a Counseling minor, I believe I have the appropriate preparation and training for the responsibilities that this job entails. (Must specifically address the position desired as well as the website or publication of the job advertisement.)

I have always had the will to change the world. I have witnessed many people suffer and struggle over life experiences, which led me to want to pursue a career in social work. Upon graduating from UCLA, I landed a job at the school’s counseling center. There I led programs and seminars to students regarding alcohol and drug abuse. (You can give some background as to how your interest in social work developed. Also introduce your past experience doing Social Work.)

I would like to broaden my range of patients. I sincerely want to be able to help not only students in school facing these issues, but everyone who is affected. Because of my exposure to such a disease, since my father passed away from alcoholism, I am well aware of its detrimental effects and it is my goal to give all those who are addicted, the help that they so desperately need. (Explain why you believe you are the best candidate for this position. It may help to state a goal that you have in mind once taking on this position.)

I believe I am a suitable candidate given my experience as well as the determination to accomplish better ends for them. I would like the opportunity to meet with you. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me by phone at (555) 555-5555 or by email at (Give contact information.)

Thank you for your consideration. My resume is attached. I look forward to speaking with you. (Express gratitude for their time.)
